Palettes & materials
Color palettes and materials are the customization layer that makes a stored creature yours — and some of them are tradeable valuables. This guide covers how the palette system works, what the standard shop stock costs, and how event and shrine palettes differ.
How the palette system works
- 1
Open the shop
Create or select a stored creature, then use the multicolored plus (+) next to the palette preview — or the shop's Palettes section. Materials use the rocky plus (+).
- 2
Buy or equip
Standard palettes cost Shooms or Tikits; event palettes use event currency inside their event window.
- 3
One creature per palette
A palette attaches to one stored creature at a time and stays on it through deaths and revives.
- 4
Swap with a token
Changing to another palette (or removing it) consumes an Appearance Change Token and returns the old palette to your inventory.
- 5
Restart = lose it
A fresh slot restart does not carry the palette. Deleting a palette-wearing slot prompts a keep-palette choice for one Appearance Change Token.
A baby born from a palette-equipped parent spawns with a Nested Palette, but it can break if the slot is relaunched. The official wiki advises re-attaching the related colors from your inventory in the creature editor.
Standard palette price table
Standard palettes are always available in the shop regardless of the event calendar. Recorded prices from the official wiki, September 2026 sweep:
| Palette | Price | Color story |
|---|---|---|
| Dune | 15 Shooms | Various yellows |
| Nature | 25 Shooms | Low-tone browns and greens |
| Forest Camo | 30 Shooms | Various greens |
| Seashell Fragments | 50 Shooms | Light creams and reds |
| Misty Rose | 75 Shooms | Light greens and pinks |
| Oceanic Beach | 100 Shooms | Light blues and yellows |
| Kawaii | 150 Shooms | Pinks and yellows |
| Twilight Grove | 250 Shooms (or Trick or Treat Token) | Vibrant greens, purple, and white |
| Sunset | 400 Shooms | Purple-to-yellow ombre |
| Forest Walk | 500 Shooms | Greens, reds, and moody greens |
| Fruit Salad | 750 Shooms (or Christmas Present Token) | Vibrant pinks and greens |
| Vibrance | 850 Shooms | Vibrant red, yellow, and blue tones |
| Pastel Rainbow | 2 Tikits | Light pastel rainbow |
| Twilight | 1 Tikit (or Trick or Treat Token) | Gloomy pinks and purples |
| Vivid Rainbow | 5 Tikits | Vibrant rainbow |
Prices change with patches and events; the in-game shop is the final word for the current patch.

Shrine palettes
Three palettes are not bought at all. They drop as a percentage chance when you complete a donation at a shrine:
| Palette | Source | Look |
|---|---|---|
| Blighted Shadow | Donation to any Shadow Shrine | Purples, corrupt hues, and shadowy tones |
| Warden's Blessing | Donation to any Warden Shrine | Radiant reds, blooming blues, and lilacs |
| Warden's Curse | Donation to any Warden Shrine | Grays, deep greens, and stone-like blues |
Shrine donations are also part of the shrine reward loop, so the palette is a bonus roll on an activity you may already be doing.
Event, code, and merch palettes
Most palettes are event-tied: Halloween (Candy Corn, Demon, Witch's Brew, Wraith, Graveyard Ruins, Undead, Mothman, Clown Crest), Winter (Icicle, Holiday Cheer, Golden Gift Wrap, Holly, Festive Surprise, Fir Tree Forest, Candlelight, Frozen Flame, Frostbitten, Foul Frigid, Sleighbell), Easter (Tulip, Scrambled, Forget-Me-Not, Charcuterie, Easter Egg, Shell Bloom, Enchanted Hatchery), LSS (Land Sea Sky, Paradox, Volcanic, Armored Wish, Burning Blade), Spring Meadows (Lucky, Bunny Burrow, Pot'O Gold, Mylo And Jerry, The Hunt, Gilded Clover), Summer Paradise (Ocean Depths, Coral Reef, Charming Pearl, Peachy Sands), and Lore event palettes (Nebula, Nucleic Acid). Each costs its event's currency and only appears during that event window.
| Special source | Palette | How to get it |
|---|---|---|
| Redeem code | Campfire Palette | Code CAMPFIREASHES — active only during Campfire Campout events hosted in the official Discord |
| Merch | Broken Hex Palette | Twin Atlas merch (Lithumbra Hoodie) with in-game reward redemption |
| Collab quest | Metallic Medal Palette | The Master Clipper mission (Medal TV Quest 2025) |
Code and merch palettes are the rarest category — they cannot be bought in-game at any price.

Materials, overrides, and themes
Materials are a second customization axis that stacks with or replaces color: material overrides change the surface of specific body regions, Signature Looks package a full preset appearance, and Themes apply ready-made combinations. The shop's Materials section works like the palette shop, and event materials mirror event palettes. Shoom Piles occasionally drop materials automatically to your inventory, and daily missions rotate palette rewards every 24 hours.
Because materials attach per region, they are the cheapest way to make a common species look unique — which is exactly why certain limited materials hold trade value far above their event-currency cost.
Budgeting your first palette
- 1
Start standard
Dune, Nature, or Forest Camo cost pocket change and teach you the equip-and-swap flow.
- 2
Save the token math
Every future swap costs an Appearance Change Token (1 Tikit), so plan palettes per creature, not per mood.
- 3
Hunt events, not regrets
Event palettes return with their events, but event currency does not carry over. Spend it before the window closes.
- 4
Trade with history
Before trading any limited palette, check a dated value source — palette markets move with reruns and merch restocks.
Field checklist
Slot chosen
You know which stored creature the palette will be applied to before buying.
Token budgeted
An Appearance Change Token is planned for any future palette swap.
Source verified
Event palettes are bought inside their event window, not after it closes.
Trade checked
Tradeable palettes are priced against a current value source before trading.

FAQ
How do color palettes work in Creatures of Sonaria?
A purchased palette attaches to one stored creature at a time and stays with that creature. Changing it later — to another palette or back to none — requires an Appearance Change Token, and the previous palette returns to your inventory. Palettes survive death and revive; they are lost on a fresh restart of the slot.
Can I trade palettes and materials?
Yes. Palettes are explicitly tradeable, which is why limited event palettes and merch palettes carry real trading value. Standard shop palettes are cheap to re-obtain, so the trade market is mostly about event, shrine, and discontinued items.
What is a secondary color palette?
A free alternate palette that only certain species have. It is not purchasable and cannot be used outside its designated species. Since the Recode, owning such a species unlocks its secondary palette with no mission required.
Do palettes pass to nested babies?
Not the palette itself. A baby nested from a palette-equipped creature spawns with a special Nested Palette; after that you can equip an additional palette from your inventory as normal.
What happens if I delete a stored creature wearing a palette?
The game prompts you to keep the palette at the cost of one Appearance Change Token. Without it, deleting the slot deletes the palette with it.
